freedom ain't free...wait, i've been lied to!

2004-10-12 / 9:46 a.m.
people are sporting these magnetic ribbons on their cars. i noticed one said 'freedom isn't free'. woah, what? wait, i've been lied to! i thought freedom was free; it is the state of being free. in light of current events and the good ol' patriot act, i'm not sure what is or isn't free anymore. just baffled by the idea in general.

so let's look at some of the things we're free to do here in the land of apple pie and cheeseburgers:

i'm free to go in as much debt as i want.

i'm free to watch many kinds of television programs.

i'm free to eat most of my food on the go, (what's a dining room for?)

i'm free to work overtime if i'd like to. gives me more money to go into debt.

i'm free to have little privacy. courtesy of our computer age and these fabulous online diaries, my innermost thoughts are only a google and click away.

i'm free to get my freak on, whatever that means.

i'm free to buy one and get one free.

i'm free to find little to zero clothes that flatter my beautiful curves.

i'm free to spend money out the ass for healthcare and nutritional food.

i'm free to be harassed if i choose to freely disclose my queerness or jewishness. (what was that freedom of religion and pursuit of happiness shit?)

i could go on. am i being negative? prolly. am i being realistic? prolly. with indiana being an assumed 'bush' state, i wonder why i'm voting at all, but i'm gonna do it anyway. it is my blissfully blind hope that eventually the system will work.

yeah, right.
